Non-urgent advice: Going Travelling?
As travel to foreign countries is relatively simple these days, it is easy to forget or not realise what health risks we may be subjecting ourselves to. We recommend that if you are travelling to a foreign country, you check the Travel Health Pro website.
Look up the country/countries to be visited and if you think you may need vaccinating or are at all unsure, then make an appointment to see one of our Practice Nurses, preferably 2 months before departure. It is important to do this as early as possible to ensure we can offer you an appointment in time and have the appropriate vaccinations in stock.
During the appointment the nurse will assess and advise you on what you will need for the destination you are travelling to. They will also be able to give any of the necessary vaccinations that are available on the NHS. Please note that certain immunisations and anti-malarial prophylaxis are NOT available on the NHS. Our nurses will do their best to guide you as to where to seek help if you require private input. We do not provide prescriptions for malaria tablets. Adults can attend a pharmacy and children must attend a private travel clinic to obtain these.
The following vaccinations are provided free of charge:
Hepatitis A
Typhoid
Combined Hepatitis A and Typhoid
Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio – given as a combined vaccine
Cholera
Combined Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
